Hi, I'm currently looking for some new rechargable front lights.

How much do you think a second hand set of Cateye ABS-20 lights are worth???
In good working order? Think they were around £100 new.

Any other reccomendations??
Thanks

I would say £30 ish, they are okay but the light assembly is poorly built (mine fell apart and lost a small spring that locks it on to the handlebar bracket). You can buy new light sets from around £50 that will perform similarly. The one bonus with the ABS is the battery doesn't use up a bottle cage.
  • Alfablue, Thanks alot for your reply! The guy selling was wanting around £50 for them so maybe just give them a miss.

What new £50 light sets are you referring to in your post? I have seen smart, Knightlite and electron but thought they all might be a bit cheaply made. Best place to buy??
    Thanks for your help mate

I was thinking of the Electron 10w+5w (£45 at ATC). Yes it's 5w less than the cateye, and it uses a bottle cage, but the battery is light and run-time is reasonable. Build quality is basically good, but 2 things of note, the cords attaching to the light body come out fairly easily, this is solved by reversing the 2 lights so that the cables enter on the inside rather than outside edge, and the mechanism allowing lights to swivel up and down needs occasional tightening with an allen key or they get too floppy. Other than that I have found them to be fine

I have used Smart sx6w SLA, Cateye ABS 20, Electron 5+10, Vistalite Nightstick 25, and now favour the Dinotte for unlit road riding - the Electron was probably the best of the cheap sets IMHO.

Alphablue, a few quick questions for you. How easy were the Electron lights to swap between bikes? From the picture it seems both lights are connected and fit to the bars with one bracket. Also, will the control switch fit to the taped part of road bars and does it fit quickly or need tools. I ask because I got rid of my Cateye abs 20s because they were a complete pain to remove and refit between road and mountain bike. I'm considering the Dinotte 200l, but it's pretty expensive considering the number of times I'll use it. Thanks.

    Hi Steve

Yes, one Q/R mount holds both lights - takes just a few seconds to remove, and the switch has a velcro strap, so no tools needed (except occasional tightening with alen key, as I mentioned above). Unlike the Cateye, the bracket is all self contained, nothing to mount seperately on the bars first.

Ah right. Thanks very much for that.
