Do pedals need grease?

Hi
Just about to fit my (subscriber gift ) Shimano M540 pedals.
I'm not the greatest DIY genius going - in fact everytime I pick up a screwdriver I have to think "left to loosen, right to tighten"...
Well, I've read the instructions and I think I know what to do - except I would have thought I needed to use grease or something when I attach them to the crank arms?
Advice on this (and anything else I might need to know) appreciated.

correct some grease or anti sieze paste (copper slip).
having a read of parktools, linky below, will help you out."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Thanks fellas
Erm, teflon grease - Tesco's? Halfords?0 -
if you use copperslip, wear gloves as it's carcenegenic. it was banned from my work last year0

Teflon grease from Halfords (bike section) or local bike shop.0

OK, been to Halfords and bought some grease (the guy told me to get Copper Grease rather than teflon?)
I'm now ready to install the new pedals but theres no access to the pedals from the inside of the cranks - i.e. theres no place to put an allen key.
Am I doing this right?
Can I just get them off with a spanner?0 -

Thanks but I'm still struggling?
Clockwise for the left pedal to release it?
Last go or I'll have to pay the LBS to do it.0 -
all the info is on parktools linky below. including pictures."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Simple rule to follow with pedals is that you undo them by turning the spanner towards the rear of your bike.
Driveside (chainset side) is traditional thread
Non-drive side is opposite threadDave S0 -
