Do pedals need grease?

Hi

Just about to fit my (subscriber gift  ) Shimano M540 pedals.

I'm not the greatest DIY genius going - in fact everytime I pick up a screwdriver I have to think "left to loosen, right to tighten"...

Well, I've read the instructions and I think I know what to do - except I would have thought I needed to use grease or something when I attach them to the crank arms?

Advice on this (and anything else I might need to know) appreciated.

correct some grease or anti sieze paste (copper slip).

having a read of parktools, linky below, will help you out.

Teflon grease smeared on the threads is a good idea to stop the pedal seizing into the crank arm.

Turn the Allen key/spanner towards the rear of the bike for both sides.

    Thanks fellas

Erm, teflon grease - Tesco's? Halfords?
  • if you use copperslip, wear gloves as it's carcenegenic. it was banned from my work last year
  • Teflon grease from Halfords (bike section) or local bike shop.

OK, been to Halfords and bought some grease (the guy told me to get Copper Grease rather than teflon?)

I'm now ready to install the new pedals but theres no access to the pedals from the inside of the cranks - i.e. theres no place to put an allen key.

    Am I doing this right?

Can I just get them off with a spanner?

15mm spanner,on the pedal axle on the outside edge of the crankarms.

    Thanks but I'm still struggling?

Clockwise for the left pedal to release it?

Last go or I'll have to pay the LBS to do it.

Simple rule to follow with pedals is that you undo them by turning the spanner towards the rear of your bike.

Driveside (chainset side) is traditional thread
    Non-drive side is opposite thread
