Bike Lock

The time is approaching where 'er indoors is going to insist my shiny new Rockhopper Pro 2007 goes in the garage rather than the spare bedroom . Rather than the rigid D types ones I'm wanting one long enough that I can thread through the frame, both wheels (and loop through an aluminium ladder for good measure ).
I would imagine I would need to spend around £50-£60 pound for something reasonable? Can anyone recommend something?
Is this sufficient:

or am I better going for one of these bad boys?

Or is there something else?
Thanks in advance!

i have one like the second lock, which i put round my frame and around my motocross, i also have a little one which i got for £15 to go through the wheels!
i would go for the second one, if some one gets in and sees that it would be a put put off for them and they wont be able to get some cutters through that...
have a look at this combo

doubt no one will ever get through that and it is a good price, i think im going to get one for nearer the winter when more bikes go missing0 -
Defo go for option two - they are awesome matey! It's what I have!
Rather have the bike indoors but you know what women are like mate.....0 -
TBH do you have insureance? get whatever full complies with their requirements and then go a bit better, BUT make sure it still complies."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I got an Oxford Ground Anchor, £7.99 from Chainreactioncycles
and this Oxford 2 metre x 10mm chain and lock, (£29.99 also CRC):
and a remote controlled PIR shed alarm, £8 from Aldi.
This is supplemented with a PIR Security light covering the (metal) shed where the bikes live.
A cable lock is just a quick snip away from theft - by all means get something like a Kryptoflex cable (about £5)
to attach the wheels to your main chain or lock, but don't have a cable based lock as your main bike lock.
The Faggedaboutit chain and lock is better than mine, but I needed a 2 metre chain to go round 4 bikes. I am reasonably happy with my security.
The Oxford monster chain (Jactheoc's link) has thicker links than mine (11mm versus 10mm) but I had trouble finding it in a 2m length. However good your chain or lock is, I would strongly recommend a ground anchor.0 -
alfablue your bike is not going to get stole from your shed...you would have to spend about 24hours to get it out
oohhh well better safe than sorry0 -

Even so it would be possible to break the chain with a 40" bolt cropper or an angle grinder, but that is unlikely to be used by the opportunist theif.
I could have spent three times as much on a top rated chain, but then its just getting silly - the bikes are insured anyway, but I haven't a clue if the company would pay out!0 -
look on sunderson security web site. things like the kryptonite chain are a lot cheaper there than anywhere else I found.
With a 1m chain its only £65 including delivery.

Winters the best time for riding! along with Autumn, Spring and Summer... Can never get enough of crispy early morning rides or snowy morland rides.0

Anyone serious about security who wants a chain that can't be cropped by bolts cutters
have a good look through this site.
www.almax-security-chains.co.uk
I have one of these chain's & anchors for my Motocross bike. They are unbeliveable quality. Gives me total piece of mind.... might be a bit OTT for Mountain bikes though.
The site also shows how easy it is to cut some of the other "top" brand chains with bolt cutters.
Hope this helps0 -

Well going by my personal experience, (motocross bikes)
The theives have a pretty good array of tools.
I've seen first hand what large bolt cutters can do. It's not pretty.
Yeah i agree i doubt most of the local chav theives would have them but you never know...
Anyway just wanted to recommend them, As me & a number of friends have these and have been very impressed by them.0 -
It's a good recommendation GM3 - Captaincropper (I think he is in some of the Almex films) sometimes posts on these forums and has given useful opinions on some inferior locks.0
