Why no Disc Brakes on road bikes?

I'd favour disc brakes instead of calipers because I would rather replace a disc than have to rebuild a wheel because the rim has worn to the limit. I doubt if the extra weight would be enough to worry about particularly as the rim could be made lighter, and that is where weight is the biggest drawback. They could also be given a more aero profile without the need for a braking surface.0

Road bikes do use a disc of sorts - a caliper with pads to grip a rotating disc slowing it down. The problem is you don't consider it such because it doens't look like the disc/caliper arrangement you see on MTB's, cars, motorbikes etc - but from a design point of view it's doing the same thing.
and because they are spinning at a higher velocity, with a smaller contact area its possible to modulate braking effort much easier.0
