polar cs400 speed sensor

I've just bought one of these and I cant seem to get the computer to rcognise that there's a speed sensor? I've tried turning the option on in the settings bit but it just keeps coming up with speed sensor required. The mileage thing doesn't work neither does the auto start - can any one offer any help?

    How far apart are the speed sensor and the computer, I had this trouble with my CS200 when I had the sensor mounted on the back wheel, it was to far away if I had the computer on the stem. I was running my bike on my turbo trainer and thats why I wanted the sensor on the back wheel I ended up zip tieing the computer to the top tube to get round the problem of the sensor and computer being to far apart.

    It should tell you in the manual what the max distance is, it might not be this problem though as mine just didnt register any speed, it definately didnt give me an error message like yours is doing.

    Have you checked the polar website for any more info on your problem ?
