Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new mtb, I haven't ridden one for years and will be using it on the road a lot as well as some general light off road. I've read the buying guide and got a shortlist of 3
GT Avalanche 2.0
Mongoose Tyax Super
Diamondback Response

I've seen the 2007 models of all 3 for just over £300 in various places online. They all look pretty good to me...can anyone shed some light on which might be the better bike? Or recommend something better in that price range?

thanks,
Mark

  • Both the GT and the Mongoose, are very good and receive good reviews.Which is best for you,is as as much down to personal preference, and sizing.

As always, you need to go and try one first. If the riding, does'nt produce a clear favourite, choose which colour one,you prefer........

I've got a GT Aggressor XC2, and I can say it's great for the money :D

Guy above is correct I think as it sounds like you will be doing minimal 'mountain' biking.

If you insist on one of these, I have an 05 Mongoose Tyax Super which I bought at the start of this year and I have not got a bad thing to say about it for what it was bought to do and its reliability.

Mate of mine bought a GT Avalanche 1.0 which is a bit more pricey but arguably not that dissimilar and again its been bloody brilliant for his needs.

Fact we're both upgrading as we speak shows that both bikes got us addicted again and put many smiles on our face. So like another guy said, go and try them and if this isn't possible go on the one you like the look of the most.
