Slightly OT I know but I figured I might get more of a response here than in family.

Trying to keep my sons current bike going until he's big enough for a new one. The trouble is he's into jumping now and he's done some small technical trails at Aonach Moor and basically the bike isn't up to it. What bike to get next is another question for another time.

The front forks have developed an ominous clunk and some handlebar bolts have sheared and the brakes need fixing etc... etc..

Now most of it I can handle but I don't know much about the forks. I'm guessing that to buy a replacement set of kids bike forks, if I can get them, is not going to be worth it so I probably am looking at stripping the current set down.

So, firstly do you think its possible and secondly what could be causing said clunk. It clunks when you drop the front end down but there is still rebound in the forks.

Just looking for some pointers really, I have stripped motorbike forks before so I'm not completely lost here.

tbh just start undoing bolts. i dont think you will find much in there other than either a coil spring or more likely some Elastomers.

but before doing that check the normal eg headset for tightness..... also a peek at Suntours webby might give a manual. there is a link in the tech links sticky above.

Thanks I'll have a look at the link.

Headsets OK, some bits of the bike are well put together, wheels, frame, bars and good geometry for a kids bike but the forks are not good.

Reading around, there's not much too the cheaper forks. So in the event of me not being able to fix my sons forks, does anyone know a website which sells forks for kids bikes, 20 inch wheels. I had a search last night but couldn't find one.

Tbh it is not really something that sells. your best bet will be the LBS who should beable to get something similar in.

yes you're probably right but I expect their price for forks will not make it economic, I'll ask. Thanks for your help I'd never have guessed Suntour made kids forks without you pointing me at it.
