I am looking for a technique to remove an MC.1 klein headset from a 1993 Klein Attitude. Any ideas? It is glued in (by Klein) I am reluctant to use brute force.

I think you need one of these

That's probably what a bike shop would use. You insert it through the top of the head tube and the splayed ends engage with the lower cup, you then hammer the top of the tool. Reverse the frame to do the same for the top cup.

@Alphablue, thanks for that - will take it to bikeshop hopefully they have this tool.
@nicklouse - why pictures? I can include some if you want a nice bike for your bedroom wall :o)

so it isposible to check if it is just a case of you not hitting things hard enough or it there is something "special" about your frame?

Ah I see, yes there is something special. the steerer is threadless, but not and Ahead set up. The headset is glued in place and then sealed, but you won't see this from a photo. a diagram might help though. I was really hoping that someone may have done this before - it has to be possible right? Klein wouldn't be stupid enough to make a frame that cost over a grand(in 1993s £) where you couldn't change the forks...

i picture of the said headset would still help.

Klein do do things differently hence the request. But the cups should just knock out even if some studlock has been used. but a rocket tool ,shown above, will help. Or LBS time.

I think people are getting the wrong end of the stick here.
The steerer tube (of the fork) is glued to the headset, which is in turn glued to the headtube (of the frame). It is hence not the headset cups that I cannot remove but the forks.

if looks like a combination of an zero stack or integreted with a quill type top.
can you please confirm what you do have by means of a picture?

then i can be sure what you have.
