Does anyone know at which groupset the facility to change more than one gear at once starts?.I'm looking to go onto 10 speed in a while on my winter bike.I've already got a spare rear mech & am looking for some reasonably priced ergo shfters.
so many cols,so little time!

Since the introduction of Quick Shift you need Chorus or Record to avoid the Xenon inspired innards.I'd rather walk than use Shimano0

Mmm Butlers and Parkers seem to be out of them. The new innard sure has brought the prices down though....carbon Centaurs are £89.95 at Parker while Chorus is £149....even the Record carbon brake levers are £79!!I'd rather walk than use Shimano0 -
Bear in mind the new QS are lighter tho. Significantly crapper, but lighter.
I am in the exact same position - luckily I have non-QS Centaur 10sp and Veloce 9sp on current bikes, so will be hanging on to these as long as poss.
Outrageous behaviour by Campag. Almost enough to make me switch to Shimano.

Come on chaps... outrageous?
It might be if they had not cut prices, but they have. You can have Mirage alloy levers for 50 pounds. Have you seen how much Tiagra levers cost?!
I like the multishift, but I can see time when I would not need it. And at least I would not have to rebuild the g-springs of my ergos...0 -
I actually really like the QS mechanism. My winter bike has 9sp Xenon, the brake levers are rubbish flexy bits of plastic but the shift mechanism is fine. You can shift multiple sprockets going up the block in one movement but going the other way you can push the thumb lever multiple times very quickly because of it's position. I think people are making a big thing about this for no reason, i would happily have the same mechanism on my race bike so long as the levers were ally or CFRP.
Hypocrisy is only a bad thing in other people.0 -
I can see I'm going to have to try out the QS stuff, tho not being able to downshift half a block when I get to the bottom of my 1 in 10 hill I would REALLY miss
My point about Campag is that in 2006 entry to a multishifting Ergo set was £90 or whatever for Veloce(?) but is now substantially more for Chorus. THis does appear to be a pure revenue rasing measure, given how inelastic the demand of bikies for new toys is!
And no, I would not pay £85 for a pair of Sora... :shock:___________________

Hang on isn't there a misunderstanding here - the front changer is now indexed except on Chorus or Record, but the back shift is still the same.
So buy Chorus or Record to sweep across the front in a single movement, but surely you can still do it with the back?
The big disadvantage is that the flexible "mix and match" approach no longer works on the front shifters."It must be true, I saw it on the Internet!"0 -
Calv- you can sweep across to easier gears in one movement, it's going the other way that needs multiple pushes of the lever. But it's so easy to quickly push the button a few times a second it really doesn't matter.
Hamster- The R/H shifter has changed also, although some people may not have noticed as they might not shift to a harder gear a few cogs at a time.

Indeed, unless browing a hill I guess you wouldn't miss the upshift sweep.
Thanks for the info - not irrelevant as somebody looks like offering me a good price for my Centaur-equipped commuter so I may be looking to build up my Carpe Diem finally :P___________________
