tire recommendation for road use

Hi

I got myself one of the carrera furys that are on sale on the halfords website and am really pleased with it apart from the the tire choice. They are continental gravitys and seem really thick which is ok but I do a lot of commuting to work on roads with only occasional offroad use. Could anyone give me some ideas on tires that would be of more use to my needs and what makes I would need to be looking at.

Thanks a lot :D

Rob

If you are only occasionally going off road then it may be worth either simply buying a set of slicks and swapping them round whenever you want to ride off road. Or, as that is a bit of a faff, and if you have a bit of cash, a second set of wheels which you can leave the mtb tyres on and then you can just swap over wheels when you want to go riding.

Its a bit paradoxical to want tyres that are good on road and off. If you want to compromise off road performance then something like Continental Travel Contacts would be good. If you want a complete road tyre than the Specialized Fat Boys come recommended.

Thanks for the advice ddoogie :)

The continental travel contacts sound pretty good. So would these be ok just for the occasional offroad and nothing too heavy? I will keep the gravitys for when I do wanna do something a little more extreme like on a weekend.

    Thanks again

Panaracer SS Machs are suitable semi-slicks and are only about £12-15 each.

Second that, I did the C2C (with all the off road bits as well) on a pair of Mach ss, very good on road, not bad off road as long as it's dry & hard.

Thanks for that mikeitup ill have a look at those. How do they look on the bike, I see they are quite slim 1.75. Also do they go offroad ok for occasional use?

Continental Town and Country? more road than off it by the looks of them.

Maxxis Crossmark? i'm using these, roll fast on road and are good on hardpack trails just don't let them see any mud. very easy to fit too only needed 1 lever :)
