Race Face Evolve XC Crank Wobble

I've just changed the bottom brackets on my evolve XC cranks and have found that no matter ho tight i seem to do the bolt up the drive side crank are still has a slight wobble on it until I tighten the crank cap up. This seems to secure the whole assembly.
Basically if the crank cap is loose, If I push/pull on the pedal whilst looking down on the top chain ring I can see and feel about 1 mm of 'wobble', but like I said above one the cap is tightened up this wobble goes.
Can anybody tell me if the crank cap is supposed to stabalise the crank or am I doing something wrong. I dont actualy have a allen key attachment for my torque wrench so I cant be sure that Im doing the bolt up to the correct torque, but a 8mm spanner with a 12 in adjustable on the end of it should suley be enough shouldn't it.

X-Type or ISIS BB ?
For both, make sure you've fitted the BB correctly and tightened the cups.
For ISIS, you really need to torque down the crank bolts
For X-Type (I'm only going off Shimano here) make sure the BB spacers are fitted and you've tightened the crank pinch bolts after preloading using the crank cap.Dave S0 -
Normally, if you get "crank wobble" on RF Evolve X-type, they're dead. It's interesing though that you say when you tighten them up it goes away.
So 3 questions:- Have you put in extra spacers on the shaft?
Or, Have you got the spacing wrong for your BB shell size?
What bike is it,and do you know the shell size?
Apologies if these seem like numpty questions, but I'm trying to build a picture of what's happening, and need to ask them. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0 -
Sorry forgot on my original post that the crank is an X-type.
The bikes a giant trance, with a 68 mm bottom bracket shell and I've got 2 cup spacers on the drive side and 1 on on the non drive side.
At the moment I've only got 1 1mm spacer on the axle, rather that the 2 that came with the crank I use 2 the bearings become tight.0
