Santa Cruz Superlight vs Heckler - which one?

I'm pretty much fixed on getting a Santa Cruz. The dilemma is a superlight or a heckler.

I'm a bit on the lardy side but I had a heckler before and it was, well, a bit too much bike. What was great fun on a hardtail was a bit pedestrian on the (old) heckler.

Tested the superlight which felt great apart from the front end felt a little well too front heavy. Anybody else found this? Does longer travel forks (you can fit up to 125's) sort this out?

Or should i just go heckler coz it;s a studier!

Oh I ride kind xc (long days and local trails) and am too long in the tooth to try all that freeride/DH nonsense.

Anybody got any opinions?

superlight sounds better for you..if you are buying brand new from a bike shop ask them if you can put a little extra money in and get some lighter forks if you are not happy with it...
  • what I meant is that it kind of wanted to stay down. Okay my hardtail is st up too high and it pulls up at the drop of a hat, but I read the WMB review of the SL on the website which kind of hinted at this. That's why maybe 125 forks might solve it?

A set of U-turn Revelations or a Fox F120 would be a good choice if you have the cash for it. If you've had a shot on the Heckler and the Superlight then it really is up to you as to which one you prefer. It does seem strange that you have chosen two different styles of bike to go for. I would have have stuck with a few lightweight 5" bikes rather than throwing the Heckler in there.

I'll see you at the end.

You'll see me on the floor.
  • They are not that different considering they both have the same DNA (the Tamson)!

I was thinking about the Revelations myself as they at least allow you to run between 100 and 125 fairly easily. Don't know I can stretch to F120's! I also like coil forks (running Vanilla R's at the moment).

And I want a simple single pivot full sus frame as I live in Scotland (we have our fair share of foul weather).
