Took delivery of my shiny new Mavic Open Pro ceramics on ultegra hubs. They look the business and having been built by paul hewitt should remain strong and true for a long time.

Just a small pointer for anyone ordering hand built wheels. Remember and order rim tape at the same time. Thankfully I had already ordered Conti Sepersonic rim tape as I was going to replace whatever tape came on the rims with it as it's meant to be easier to get tyres on and off. So hopefully shouldn't have to wait too long before I can give them a try. Feel like a bit of a twat not having thought of it but I assumed they would come taped. Be warned :(

    Cheap and cheerful solution...Insulation tape.
I've got 6 pairs of wheels using this solution, never had a problem in 25 years.

The pessimists of this world are rarely disappointed....

........and available in a wide range of colours
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Do the fashion police get you if your rim tape doesn't match?

I used blue insulation tape to match my Fatty forks, though not an exact colour match :(

Well having had a completely miserable September with no fewer than 4 rimside p words I decided, following some advice from the forum, to invest in Velox tape.

I didn't even bother installing the plastic tape that came with the Aksiums, I put Velox on top of the plastic stuff that came with my RR1850s and ripped out the plastic tape that came with the Alexrims.

Touch wood, I've logged 580 p word free miles in October. Probably the best £12 I've spent on cycling equipment (watch me have a double blow out tomorrow ).
