Sidewall Tyre Bulge

I have a bulge in the sidewall of my rear tyre. After removing the innner tube and pumping it up, the tube is deformed with a bulge appearing in the middle of it.

This is the case on two Vitoria inner tubes which I have never seen before. Should I bin the inner tube's and get another make or is this something that is normal?

TIA

Some tubes do this - when the tubes inside the tyre it shouldn't be a problem as the pressure is even distributed along the inside of the outer tyre.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

a tyre with a bulge is a tyre ready for the bin

bulge means the threads are damaged

has nothing to do with the inner-tube
  • Thanks guys. Monty Dog you confirmed my thoughts and yep, on further investigation as you suggest Gundersen, it its the tyre walls that are the problem. Found a spare pair of Conti Ultra Sport in the loft so they are now on the bike and there is now no bulge...

...I am never going to buy Conti's again though. They have given me nothing but trouble and are a complete nightmare to take on and off. The bulging pair were Gatorskins.

I have Michelin's PR2 on my other machine and they are great - never had a problem with them at all. Conti's are my marmite (I find Vegimate tastier  ).

Don't knock all Contis. Gatorskins are rubbish in my experience. I have had several go like that. I used 4 Seasons last winter and they are still good and only one puncture in 3000 miles. That may be just good luck though.
