their all much better0 -
no, no, no, no.....no
Do not waste your money on that bike.
It will be very heavy & is very poorly specced.
£200 would be better spent on a Hardtail (no rear sus) with 'V' brakes.
Have you read the sticky at the top of the buying section?
It tells you what to look for in a new bike & what to expect for the money.

PS do not buy the Raleigh, you will regret it.0 -
hope you've got some money saved up for a funeral, the first time you take that out, it'll snap and you're likely to die!!!0

Dont buy it!!!! Especialy at that price, and from Argos?? It looks very dangerous. But still, if you really have to and you're desperate then thats youre only excuse. Just dont go offroad with it, it will kill you!!Learn on a Hardtail or be crap forever!0

Raleigh are trying to look like chunky marins lol . As I said in a previous thread, they did used to make bikes that don't suck eggs but eve since their main derby plant closed, they ae now a shadow of their former selfSpecialized Camber

cheers0 -
if i had £100 for a bike i would have a look on ebay you might be able to pick up a hardrock for that money, although it would be fairly oldish it will still last alot longer that that sh1t raleigh0

DOn't buy from Argos or ebay if you are new to this game. Go to a shop where you can see the bike, try it out, have it fully built and set up and a free service.
100 quid is pushing it. Look at the Giant Rock.0 -
i'm on the lookout for a cheap MTB, just wanting to get back into it really. not after anything fancy, won't be jumping of buildings or anything as exciting as that. Is this raleigh really that bad?
What about this:

Any comments?0 -
SWIRL80, don't fall into the mountain bike trap, and definately not a cheap mountain bike at that. Do you really need 26" nobbly tyres? And a cramped cockpit? If you are just needing a bike as a runaround look elsewhere. Suspension is just a gimmick on cheap MTBs. Buyer beware!
I am on the lookout for a reasonably priced MTB but that will be specifically for trail use (I have a road bike and a folder) and won't be paying less than £350. Decent MTBs start from 200 quid.0

I think you'll find Raleigh have never had a base in Derby. Has always been Nottingham and still is today.
And if they are a shadow of their former self how come they have been featured on varius programmes recently celebrating the fact they are back on form? The thunderbolt is a bike they price spec just for Argos and Amazon, no reflection of their main range. They are also the first bike company in the world to release a bike with a gear box, The Sabbath. :twisted:0 -
I'd take the advice of many on here. Back in 2000 I bought my first mountain bike. I knew nothing of brands like Marin, Orange, Trek etc. Luckily I knew someone who'd ridden mountain bikes for years. Spoke to them, got some advice visited a few shops...bought a Gringo. Quality bike (bit more than I'd planned to spend), but was able to enjoy Shipley, Wharncliffe etc and not end up in A & E!!!!0
