Single speed

Hi everyone. I recently got a new single speed bike off ebay. (Yes, ebay. Am i stupid? Probably).
However, ive been having problems with the chain falling off.
Im not completely stupid, so i bought a Dmr simple chain tensioner. Worked fine for a while, but then it started slipping again, then got worse and worse, till i couldnt ride it anymore and had to get a lift home.
Sounds like the rear chainring has explodified under the repetitive slipping.
Heres the messed up bits:
1.) The chain is too wide (looks like a bmx chain to me). So it wont fit into the tensioner properly, but rides on top of the wheel (instead of in the groove). So im probably going to have to buy a new chain.
2.) The rear chainring looks like it might possibly have a few teeth bent slightly. This could be the problem.
3.) The front chainring is slightly wider than the rear one (which is of a normal mtb width).
Right.. so.. what to replace?
The chain (downgrade to a normal width one)? Ok, im going to have to do that to make it fit into the tensioner properly. But will it then fit onto the front chainring? So will i have to replace that too? But.. if part of the problem is the rear chainring, should i replace that too?
So basically:
1)replace just the chain
2)replace the chain and the rear chainring
3)replace the chain and the front chainring (to fit)
4)replace all three things
Any advice?
How i wish i had horizontal dropouts

pics of the parts?
is the chain line good?
get a tensioner that is compatable with your chain?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

okay, ill try to get some pics soon.
The chainline looks okay to me
Good point about getting a new tensioner though.. ill look into it.0 -
Maybe i was completely stupid.. or maybe just brain dead yesterday..
Ill just buy a new tensioner.
Does anyone know if this will be wide enough (for a 1/8" chain)?

Also, can anyone recommend any others? I dont particularly want a spring tensioned one, a fixed one would be best. It would also have to fit on a QR.
Ill probably buy a new rear chainring too, just for good measure.0
