after 1200miles my lx rear hub is about at deaths door i fear, it certainly sounds like it's knocking at it "knockknockknock" and also it appears to be hissing/grinding too. so it's the perfect excuse for an upgrade woohoo!

currently i've got on here, lx rear hub, lx cassette and 717disc rims with lx disc brakes, the cassette looks as new, the brake is great and the 717s are still pretty good, maybe 0.5-1mm out but i think that might grow as i'm get fitter and riding harder?

so i'm after something that can handle my newer fitter self (especially when i wear my magic go faster red top) and does'nt need too much maintainence so i'm looking at a new crc build of king iso or pro 2 on xm719 disc with dt db spokes. both of these arn't splined rotors like my lx hub but are 6 bolt so i guess a 6 bolt xt rotor would suit my lx brakes? also would these come with a new qr skewer or should i just use my lx one i have already? would that fit these hubs?

so are the xm719's any good for my malt4 hardtail and are the king iso's worth the extra
and i should get a 135mm hub?

cheers :)

The CKs require a lot of maintainence to keep them in good shape and under waranty. They are, of course, super high quality though. They also wont come with skewers.

If you're looking at high end hubs then, IMO, you go far wrong with a Tune King/Kong set up. XTR hubs are hard to beat at price and quality though.

oh really? i've been reading they did'nt require that much after the initial bearing bedding adjustments hmmm. so king need more maintainence than pro 2's? i mean i don't mind a little bit i just don't fancy rebuilding a hub every other month.

just done a quicky on the kings and they look rather tasty :) any links to custom wheel builds online like crc for the king hubs?

ok how's this look? xtr m965 rear hub, xt cassette, xm719 rims and dt pg spokes?

are the dt db spokes worth the upgrade? are they alot weaker?

    cheers :)

This is similar to my situation with upgrading my wheels/ hubs.

Firstly, I'd say mate that its seems like personal choice between XTR and Pro IIs as so many rate both types. Makes upgrading for me and you a bit tricky!

ddoogie can you expand on the CK maintenence point - how much more attention do they need?

and could you describe the Tune King/ Kong set up?

    Cheers.

both the CK and the hope require regular maintainance.

Hope are stopping making the XC and the buld so dont go there. Shame as the pro 2 aint as good as the Bulb.

Tune as along as you are not harsh. Ie if DHing dont as they will need work every day. and a big bag of spares.

after days of reading "these are the best ever hubs" and "these suck they broke and need a service after every ride too" on every hub i read about, i went for,

    dt swiss 240s disc rear.
    mavic xm719.
    dt comp db spokes.
    dt pro lock nipples.
    xt cassette.
    19mm rim cloth.
    deore 6 bolt rotor.

hopefully it wont take too long to arrive, bikes been shed bound for two days now and it's getting more clean everyday it's in there.
