Noticed I had a p*ture in my rear tyre today even though its a Bontrager Hardcase. At least its only the first in two sets of tyres.

  • Can't rely on anything..?

If there's one thing you can rely on, it's p******es!

Marathon Plus tires and punctures are history. There are a few alternatives, but nothing comes even close in terms of puncture protection.
  • I got my first unplanned deflation event recently (I run Bontrager RaceLite XL, which have hardcase). The cause was a little sliver of metal - (looked like one "arm" of a staple to me). TBH, I think it was thin enough and sharp enough that I reckon it would have worked its way through most casings, tbh.

I remember when I starting cycling I got a puncture from a thorn on a country track. Spent AGES changing the tube then set off again. 2 feet later... Another thorn! Yep, a whole hedgerow of thornbushes. D'oh!

My specialised armadillo's are okay - only one puncture, and that was a big shard of glass from crunching a bottle...

I've been using Schwalbe Marathon Plus tyres since they first came out and NO PUNCTURES. I tried a Bontrager Hardcase and punctured within a week - so back to the SMPs.

  • The bike is second hand and came with Schwalbe Marathon (not plus though) I was looking forward to trying them. But they had some deep cuts and punctured about 2 weeks after I got it so I went to Hardcases again. I've had armadillos before and had no p with them. I think its just bad luck this time and the amount of glass at the bottom of my road.

    >>and came with Schwalbe Marathon (not plus though)

Marathon and Marathon Plus are two different things.

btw. I was literally cursed with punctures before I moved to SMPs. Now I can publicly DARE the Puncute Fairy: Come on, you wimp!!! I am NOT afraid, new week starting tomorrow and I am (publically) laughing at you. HAHAHA BOOHAHAHA

PS. I'd sooner expect the frame to break in three than my beloved tires getting punctured. Sooner the hell will freeze over.

That really is tempting fate. Now your frame will probably break into three.

I had a fantastic ride today, 23 miles, no surprises, as expected :D:wink:
