Brake drop
How exactly is this measured? Is it from the centre of the top bolt to an imaginary horizontal line through the centre of the brake pads?
I wish to replace the brakes on what was an old 80's Raleigh 10 speed (now singlespeed) with some modern calliper brakes. Comparing the brakes on my Shimano 105 equipped bike with these old brakes would seem to indicate that the old brakes are smaller. Will i have problems selecting a new brake? I'm guessing most brakes have a little bit of leeway for adjusting the pads up/down.

standard brakes are 39-49mm drop IIRC.
long drops are 47 to 57mm
measure from bolt hole to centre of rim. Then judge which set should work.
If it's less than 39 mm then maybe the bike is running bigger wheels than originally....?Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0
