Hayes sole fitting problem ?

In readiness for selling my Hardrock after buying the FSR, I put the 2 bikes in to my LBS to swap some components over bike to bike. They swapped the forks, crankset etc. but the problem lies with the Hayes sole rear brake taken off the full-susser transferred to the Hardrock.

The caliper body is catching the rotor itself, my LBS think that the brake has got the incorrect bracket attatched but as it was transferred off the FSR:- rotor, caliper et al & worked perfectly could they have mixed brackets up ?

They`ve suggested that as I`m selling the bike I could file the back of the caliper housing but I`d rather do it properly.

Any ideas ?

I put a set of Soles onto my GT Avalance 3.0 frame with no problems. This is my first experience of discs, hydro or cable. I then read the PDF manual I DL'd and got them sorted, rotors, rotate with no rubbing and they stop the wheels in the workshop(kitchen), yet to try them out on the road.

There is some adjustment in the brackets themselves. You have 4 allen bolts on each bracket, 2 mount the IS bracket to the frame and 2 others to mount the callipers to the IS mount. Adjust the fitting by undoing the two bolts, marked in yellow.

You can download the Hayes Sole Manual here. It doesn't give any help on your matter but handy none the less.

thanks Redvee. Did what you suggested and it worked perfectly

It probably took me less than 60 secs to sort out

The worry is how didnt the LBS spot this ? A bit worrying after they`ve fitted forks, crankset & brakes to my new bike

    HELP !!

Thought i`d sorted this but the adapter is cattching the rotor, not the caliper itself ! Followed above advice and it seemed to work at first. Have adjusted fittings and caliper is about 1mm away from rotor. Its the IS adapter which is being rubbed - its just too `bulbous`. I`ve checked Chain Reaction`s website and it looks spot on. its as if the drop outs have been knocked - but visually they are fine.

I could go back to the lbs suggestion and file the bracket if I cant fix it (I tried adjusting both pads with an allen key to no avail. Remember, the brakes worked perfectly when on the FSR - its since they were swapped over to the Hardrock.

    Any clues, please ?

is there anything between the adaptor and the frame?

Just realized its an 8 speed cassette on a 9 speed hub - could this cause the problem ?

8 & 9 speed cassettes are the same width, as are the hubs. This shouldn't make any difference.

Well you could file down the adaptor, or get a more narrow one such as an Avid, but my reccomendation would be to have your disc mounts faced first.

trouble is I`m selling the bike this week. Will have to file the adapter - just had wanted to get around it some other way.
