Looking at changing myXC tyres for the winter and have come up with the following shortlist:
Conti Explorer Pro
Maxxis Medusa
Panaracer Trailraker
I ride around the Chilterns which is made up of forest tracks with some being very muddy and others be made up of chalk and stone - so the tyres got to be pretty tough too.
I know the Explorer is not a specific winter tyre but it has a wide tread pattern that should clear mud well and the Conti website says it designed for damp conditions. The Trailrakerhas a great rep too but I wonder whether that tread pattern is going to be a slow roller.
Anyone got an opinion (stupid question!!!!!)

Have you given the Bontrager Mud-x a thought i just bought some and they seem to work well in the mud and on rocky climbs and also clear the mud quite well.

Cheers Stormtrooper, thats a tyre thats been banded about a lot, is it a tubeless only tyre, or could I use them conventionally?0

It's a "tubeless ready" tyre which means it's not tubeless at all - it can be made tubeless by adding sealant just like any other tyre.
However, to answer your real question, yes it can be used with tubes, but then again so can proper tubeless tyres."Internet Forums - an amazing world where outright falsehoods become cyber-facts with a few witty key taps and a carefully placed emoticon."0 -
Thanks Splasher, new technology for me.0
