Iv been in the market for a new bike for a couple of month. Originally for a steel hardtail. After coming across this at a local bikeshop for only £740!!! (Cheaper than Evans)I am now very tempted. Its so light i almost threw it over my shoulder when i lifted it up!

The bike will be used for Cross Country, blasting down trails and shoving panniers on for a couple of days on the hill

Does anyone have any views on this bike or own one?
I want it and am a week away from putting down a deposit on it.

Thanks in advance to any response!

  • Hello i have a Rockhopper Comp 08 and am very pleased with it. Its handled everything i have thrown at it so far but i havent given it to much stick as yet as i found the original tyres arent up to much, but i will have some new ones going on tomorrow so i will be giving it a proper testing the weekend on some of the more demanding route's.

I understand what your saying there. I may take the tyres off straight away, they look great for epic rides in the summer but maybe not the winter! It seems like the best bike i can find for under £1000, and at £740, it seems like a real steal.
  • Good bike for the money, excellent frame, good kit for now,but with potential to upgade further.

    If it fits,buy it. :D

    2016 Boardman Pro 29er
    2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
    2017 Canondale Supersix Evo
  • I have an '06 of those, slowly upgraded it during the past year and i think it's a great machine! I would get rid of the tyres and wheels asap. a good set will make you fly on such a good frame! Go, Get It!!

I had the comp it was great and I just bought my pro disc from Evans on Tues, so stoked and its suits me well. Bit upset that I just spent £50 more than you. Dude I would grab it with both hands!!!! I love mine.

you can still test them if you live anywere near the shop or you could just go to a lbs which stocks them and have a go.. you would have to have a go first, i cant see the point in people who try bikes with out trying them

Not wanting to waste your hard earned is a very good reason for testing a bike before you buy.

I like to buy from my local bike shops too as any problems i have there is always someone there to solve it. Free service after 3 months too. Whats that? FREE service just before the summer, after a long winter riding season :D
  • Did you get your RH Pro 2007?

I have one and love mine, but have upgraded quite a bit on it!

    Resolution Pro tyres
    SRAM X7 Shifters
    SRAM X9 Rear Mech
    SRAM PC991 Chain
    SRAM PC990 Cassette
    Flying Snakes Gear Cables

I changed the cassette and chain due to wear, picked the pair up from Merlin or £49.95.

I think the Pro is a great Bike, handles well and is very agile.

I have ordered a Pitch PRO but will still be keeping my RH as its a great XC bike!

I am going down first thing in the morning to put a deposit down. They are going to keep it until they have finance sorted out as their current finance company has just went bust! 0% and if i save up money for a couple of months i wouldn't find a better deal and would end up paying more. Plus i love the Autumn riding too much. Bring it on.

Good for you mate. Its so good when you see people on here as passionate as you and your mates are. Sod buying advice on this one - go get it as it will be the best bike you've ever owned either way by the sounds of it. Let us know how Dartmoor goes!

  • Go and get it Keith! Mine is a 2006 model PRO DISC. Hv upgraded most of the stock components though - FD changed to XT, RD to XRT and SID team shock. The stock seat is horrible - mine changed to Fizik ( Gobi ) .
