he works as a mechanic for the Bike Brewey in Abbotsford, B.C.

he gave up the pro riding career, no money in it

I'd love to be a mechanic if I rode bikes that much. I love having a fettle and a fondle with broken bikes.

I heard he was making a better living working as a mechanic than he was riding his bike

its not easy to get paid sponsorship for freeride, especially in Canada

i would of thought their would of been a few sponsors after him after season2 of drop in when he was doing a 70ft road gap  ....wasn't he sponsored by santa cruz and fox aswell...

its not as simple as doing a big drop and getting sponsored..

its pretty complicated, often a case of "who you know"...getting an introduction to a new sponsor, and there is alot of competition with a change in the type of rider being sponsored...going away from extreme freeride "big drops" to slopestyle and more all-round riders

If you know Tyler you probably know Ryan Snchep (sp?) also a Drop In rider. Ryan is a bike mechanic as well

Both of them are amazing riders, they`ll hit 'anything'

I think between £9 and £15/hour is average for a shop mechanic.

    So about 18-30k per year?

    That surprises me.
