I cut a strip from a plastic folder I borrowed from the stationary cupboard at work.
  • Yes - I did this by pop riveting on part of a milk carton (using washers to distribute the load a bit). It has lasted about a year so far (say 3000 miles on that bike). It is very effective in reducing spray from the road.

The problem I have is that the extra drag caused by the big mud flap causes a vibration in the mudguard - it bounces round quite a bit about 25mph. I have decided to rivet on a metal support (to attach to behind the brake, like a normal mudguard, but longer so the mudguard doesn't go under the fork itself) to try and prevent this. Not made the time yet though!

Not tried it myself, however a piece of damp proof course is pretty close to the stuff at the bottom of my SKS full length guards.... Plus the mandatory pop rivet, or a couple of holes joined with a tie-wrap - I get my ties from Maplins and normally find I can buy about 50 for the price of 5 at any other store!

If they moan make them go in front.

    Solves the problem.

Or you can move the guard around to make it lower on the wheel.

I just use a slightly rigid strip from a 2L coke bottle - kinda wraps round the guard, and doesnt really drag on the tyre. May rub the side occasionally, but not too bad.

You could get a sheet of aluminuim mesh for 99p and a roll of duck tape for £2.49. Cut the mesh to the size you want, cover it with duck tape and stick it to the race blade.

I got standard road ones...I've stuck 6 inches of milk bottle on th end which looks much better, although I haven't testing it in anger yet
