Lights
Hi,
I am wanting to spend about 100 on a set of lights, they will be used for country lanes, what sort of things am I looking at as i am never sure whether the lights are for MTB or Road bikes. I will probably end up spending slightly more (round 150) but may aswell give it a go!

try www.lumicycle.com they have a variety of lights, different wattage bulbs, different batteries from around £140. The website suggests which is best for each type of riding. I got the ni hm battery and 10 watt bulb 3 years ago for unlit roads and it's still going strong. Not cheap but IMO good value.0

The basic Hope LEDs are around that price

there's a wait though.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
You can get the Hopes for £135 from Merlin cycles as they have a 10% discount off their already discounted price at the moment.
Was sorely tempted myself but way more light than I need !0 -
How bright is 300 lumens? and how worth it are bike lights of higher quality (£200)0

I use my Dinotte light in country lanes and its fine. That on the front and a Smart 1/2 Watt light and another LED on the back too. You can never have too many lights.0

This month's (December) Cycling Plus magazine has a review which covers a large number of lights at a range of prices.
It brings up the interesting point of glare affecting oncoming traffic especially for MTB lights, which are in this case described as those with a wide beam spread.
Dinottes are very good value this year, IMHO.
Cateye EL610 was another sub 100 pounder listed as a best buy.
I checked out the Busch & Muller website (www.bumm.de !) Some of their other sub 100 quid lamps looked quite interesting - The Ixon at GBP55.
They seem to have cleverly designed the reflector units in their lights to provide a sharply defined cutoff point at the furthest point of the beam to prevent dazzle, plus brightness that is stepped down from top to bottom, thereby providing an even light output without hotspots.0 -

Have a weekend sale on. You can get there 200L AA light for under fifty pounds, you will have to pay Customs so add another 20 or so pounds to that (tax + handling) + postage, so you would be looking at 75 pounds.
I am a bit peeved as ordered mine a couple of weeks ago and payed 120 pounds in total (including all expenses) and then I find out I could have saved big bucks by waiting.Mañana0
