Jealous of the youngsters

It seems to me that this country is gaining some incredibly skilled and experienced youth and junior riders on the track these days. 'Sprint School' and Future Revolution, the opportunity to ride in the Future Stars at the main revolution................... what fantastic experiences, encouragement and support these youngsters are getting, and they have World Champion heroes to look up to as well!

Is anyone else a bit envious of the youngsters in the track scene these days?

    Yep me too!

Although I ride the Manchester track most weeks (SQTs etc). I'm always a bit envious of the youngters coming through. When I raced on the track many years ago we didn't have any facilities like Manchester, Newport. Leicester was about as good as it got.

I say, Good luck to all the youngters. I'm still a bit jealous though.

Thank goodness someone else has noticed so many skilled youngsters on the track. Thanks Suze. I notice that the recent Future Revolution event at Newport even had a madison for the GIRLS! And whyever not! :D:D:D

We get quite a few youngsters from five upwards turning up for track sessions at Aldersley on a Friday, and the boy/girl mix is pretty even. If this is replicated at local tracks around the country we're going to get a lot of future GB track stars.

Not fun though when 14-15 year olds beat the legs off me in sprints

It’s a great way to keep you sharp and competitive though!
    I’m a sprinter – I warmed up yesterday.

Does knackered mean the same thing as sharp and competitive ?

Andy Tennant (2005 Junior World Pursuit Champion) chipped up for the club run on Sunday, and I still ache today. Yay for track training tonight.

To be fair he sat on the front and twiddled 'round in a low gear, however Sunday runs for me are normally a potter around the lanes with a stop for a nice bit of cake.
  • Had a go at rideing Leicester the other day VERY ROPEY needs more than a good brush :(

The 1982 World Champs venue ? I'd heard it was a bit dodgy.

Just had to watch the Singleton vs Nakano sprint final again now

Edit - Looks as though Leicester is getting a new venue

Wow! Thanks Ste_S! A great bit of track history there. And geez was Singleton calm about what happened! You've filled in some of my woefully poor knowledge of track history. Ta very much.

Thanks Ste_S, great to see Leicester again on the videos. Big shame that the track was left to deteriorate as it did. I used to like riding it.

All I can say is " We was there", we had tickets and were in the back straight. Singleton was certainly the hero of the day for many of the people there.
