Frame renovation for old 531

Have a decent but battered 531 frame from the 1980s, has surface rust but appears otherwise sound

Does anyone know what it would cost to get it re-spreayed and returned to its former glory? It's a nice ride and don't really want to dump it, might turn it into a budget fast tourer/Audax style machine (but won't do Audax distances on it, trust me  )

Thanks

It's just a hill. Get over it.

I suppose it depends where you live. So I'll try one north and one south. I've heard good things about these two:

    C & G Finishes, Liverpool 0151 734 3088

    Colourtech in Dartford - 01322 555 549

Again, no personal experience, but I would estimate about £60-70 for the job.

I use a tarted up 531 for Audaxes - with some decent components and contact points (plus the legs!) you shouldn't have any worries.

I have a late 80's 23.5" raliegh race frame 531 NOS its never been built up and is bright red finish. You are welcome to it for £30.00 if its any help. Certainly cheaper than refinishing your existing frame.

I'll take some pictures and put it up in for sale on the w/e but you are welcome to first dibs.

Another refinisher is Argos if they are still going I think they are based in Bristol

Thanks but am only 5'8" - and happy with current frame. I think your spare may be worth more than £30 - try Flea-Bay (!)

Argos are still going, have contacted them but they're talking £100!!! FYI I live in Bucks and work in London - may pop round to Condor/Evans (5 mins away) and ask.

Am thinking on chucking some cheap 700c's on the bike (27s from the stone age on it at the moment) and switching to some Dual-pivots - think the long drop Algongas at around £20 should hit the spot

It's just a hill. Get over it.

Hoping to get my frame back from Vaz Finishers tomorrow. He has an excellent reputation and doesn't charge silly money. Been at it a long time and seems to be a very nice bloke indeed. Will also do small alterations e.g. remove/add bosses, dropouts, etc

Shot blast and respary single coulour - £60.00
    Lug lining ~ £7.50
Contast head tube and panel on seat tube £15.00

I'll post up som photos when I get it back.

PS he's in south east London - Hither Green

Argos Cycles get a significant number of mentions on the forum.
I pass a lovely white fixie which has been re-stickered with Argos decals on my way home every night.

Think you are looking at a good £100. Had my MTB done a few years back and that was about £80 including transfers in a single colour - that had some surface rust on the chainstay bridge, that was shot blasted, never to re-appear in over 8 years...

There is nothing like a trusty steelie........
