Puncture-proof tyres???
Can anyone recommend any good puncture-proof tyres? I've just had my third puncture in a week on my Specialized Armadillo back tyre. My commute is a very average one through Salford and Manchester so it's not as though I'm going through anything too severe.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Assuming a 26" tyre the panaracer crosstowns are bullet proof. i've got over 3000 miles on mine over awful roads (bits of glass and debris all over the place etc) and no punctures. they are slow mind, they weigh about 900g each but if you don't want punctures .....
ps i think you may be able to get them in 700cpm0 -
sounds like you are riding in the gutter too much ? Most of the rubbish dropped on the roads gravitate into the gutter. Try keeping further out where possible , I know its difficult in cities and towns . In the countryside we have the hedge clippings to contend with.. groan.0

I try not to but it's pretty impossible to avoid the general grit and rubbish, no matter where you ride on the road.0

Hello,
not sure what wheel size you have, I use 26" Specialized Armadillo Crossroads 1.95
Have to say after 4000 miles only had two punctures, the first being when the tyre wasn't as hard as it could of been.
Also used very cheap Tioga Komoda tyres and again just put as much air in as possible and check them weekly.
I think tyre pressure is the key to most punctures IMHO.

You may be right. AFter my puncture earlier in the week I'd struggled to get the tyre sitting properly so could only get it pumped up to about 90psi when it normally went up to 115ish.
Plus, I'm a chunky chap (but, according to the news today that's society's fault not the extra kebabs I've had over the years) so that probably affects the 'spread' of the tyre still further.
I've got the Armadillos so I'll fix it again and get it super pumped up and see what happens!
Thanks all.0 -
Get some inner tubes that have removable valve cores and then pour in some tyre sealant, like they use in vehicles and MTB tubeless wheels. The next time the tube is pierced, it will fizz for second and then seal shut.0

I'd happily recommend Bontrager Racelite Hardcases. Been running a pair since March - 2500 miles, just 1 puncture in each tyre. (Bet that's cursed me now!)0

Ahhhhh.. if only there was a puncture proof bicycle tire . Wait, I seem to recall that
in my younger days, as a child, I had a bike with solid rubber tires. Can't really recomend
them though. Is it possible that you haven't completely removed the the original cause
of the first flat from the tire casing??? You also could have a rim or rim tape problem
like a little sharp edge poking out. Examine the rim and tape carefully.

Michelin Krylion Carbon.
Not the lightest. Not the fastest. However, a good combination of both.

Yes, I have used these for training and even TTs this year (at my speed the extra weight makes no difference :? ). Overall they are an excellent all-rounder.
I wouldn't say they were a commuter tyre though - my top choice there is Marathon+. They are very heavy, but almost bulletproof.

How long have you had the tires? I have used Armadillos for several years, getting an average of one puncture a year. Got one last night, and realised the tire was practically worn through -- they last me about 4,000 miles of daily London commuting.
Am off today to buy a replacement, though plan on trying something different for a change: Bontrager Hardcase. I've slipped off a couple of times in the wet and want to see if changing the tyre makes a difference, or whether it's just my shoddy bike handling skills.---
If I\'m not making any sense, it\'s because I\'m incoherent.0
