Straight forward wheel upgrade question

I've lost all the weight I care to, my family think I've gotten to skinny as it is. I train as often and as hard as I can.

With bike upgrades being the only other way to improve and although I haven't a bundle of cash but should get some overtime in the next couple of weeks.

Is it worth me upgrading my 2004 Zondas for Shamal Ultras?

Why Shamal Ultras. For less, if you went for a custom set of wheels, you could get a set of wheels to suit you that would be lighter, stronger and more aero. So give it some thought and you could have some better wheels for less...
  • My browsing has led me to conclude that the Shamals at £499 from D. Hinde were the lightest and most aero for the money. Nothing handbuilt can match them either.

Carbones and Vuelta Pros are in the £700-£800 bracket which is sadly too much unless I'm feeling really reckless. Anything lighter would need be tubular I think and I haven't had tubs before so I'm scared of them.

Does anyone have some other wheels suggestions I've missed? Or a different £500 upgrade which would benefit me more?

Don't touch Dave Hinde with a barge pole. Do a Google search or search the archive on this site to find out there idea of customer service.

The Shamals are definitely light but how repairable are they? Wheels for racing need to be strong and robust and easily repairable if you do crash. I'm not sure that is the case with the Shamals (as nice as they are).
  • Cycling Weekly found the shamals strong in their test this week. Could they be less repairable then mavic wheels? I've had the hubs of my Zondas serviced without problems.

They are on Parkers at £529, and guess I could absorb the extra £30 for a better service.
