Hi, hoping some of you may be able to help me, I’m looking for some advice like so many of you on here! I’ve just returned to road cycling this year after a 15 yr break and purchased a bike of ebay!! Not a good move as unable to size properly but was enough to give me the bug again :D now commuting 18 mile round trip. Now about to start the process of ordering a new bike through the cycle to work scheme and here lies my problem. I will keep the old bike for commuting and winter rides, but I have a budget of £1000 and luckily I am not restricted from which shop I have to buy the bike from.

I can see why the Focus Cayo is such a great choice, I was impressed when I saw it at the bike show, but my only problem is I prefer Camag gears as I ride mainly on the hoods. Can any one recommend a bike for this price with Campag? (A long shot I Know :!: )

I’ve found the 2008 Bianchi 1885 Hydrocarbon Veloce, but that obviously means dropping to Alu frame, and not full carbon like the focus :( . I can’t afford the extra £500 to upgrade to the Expert Campa. I’m toying with the idea of getting the Focus and upgrading in the future to Campag? More costly I know and will take a long while, or should I downgrade on the frame to get the equip I would prefer? Would the frame make much of a difference? I’ve joined my local club and next year looking at entering some races, TT as well as considering some of those longer charity rides?

Sorry I know lots of questions but any advice / help gratefully received. Thanx :D

What's wrong with the Al frame of the Bianchi? Is it stiffness or weight that you think the problem might be? TBH there can't be much between the cayo and the bianchi, although you are paying for the bianchi brand.

  • Thanx for you reply redddragon, Yes I was purely thinking about weight and if there would be much difference between these 2 bikes or maybe there is another bike out there I could consider fitted with Campag??
