Warranty claim help
Hi
Giant SCR 1.0
I have recently discovered that on my 5 month old bike, the bottom bracket threads are broken and that the threads on the frame are possibly the same. I bought the bike via internet and the shop is way out of reach.
The bike has to go back to Giant for an inspection to decide if it is a warranty claim or not. However, the store say they are going to charge for rebuilding !
That does not sound right or fair to me. If it is under warranty for a year then surely that means any faults occurring due to manufacturing defect should be put right without charge.
Any advice on this would be very helpful.

Who is giving you the 1yr warranty - the shop or Giant? If Giant, do they also cover the costs of the shop rebuilding?
Irrespective of that, the bike will have been purchased subject to the Sale of Goods Act which says, amongst other things, that the bike should be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose, which it appears not to be. If there is a breach of those terms, the shop will have a legal obligation to fix the bike. If they don't do that then you can get someone else to fix it and charge the shop.
First you need to establish whether there has been a breach of the Sales of Goods Act and then enforce the terms of the Act if there has been. Any doubts you should have a chat with a lawyer at Citzens Advice. Alternatively, are you a member of CTC as they are helpful in all sorts of circumstances?0 -
I think the warranty is Giant's
However, with every other purchase I have ever made of any kind-if there is a problem and it's under warranty-you take it back to the retailer. And then it should be fixed. Not sure why it'd be any different with a bike.
Thanks for the advice on sale of goods.0 -

Curious to know how you became aware of the broken threads.
Has someone other than the a Giant retailer been working on the bike, possibly invalidating the warranty.
Or did the bottom bracket just work loose?0 -
Hi
Noticed a bit of deviation on the crank as it turned when I first put it on the turbo trainer. Which was quite lucky, I'm not sure when I would have otherwise noticed it.0 -
I'm just surprised a Giant has gone like this!0

Yes
IT sucks. It was got a full service in August too.
Aside from this problem it has been a great bike. I think I'd still buy another. My dads new Felt F4 fell to bits within 2 weeks....so they're better built than that!0
