Firstly, hello all!!
Just trying to decide on a new seat. I commute about 30 miles a day on my Boardmann hybrid. I was toying with the idea of getting a Brooks seat for it, all the reviews i read seen to sing their praises, but i was wondering if anyone had any personal experience?
Thanks
Sam

There are lots of posts based on personal experiences around the forums, most of them quite positive but there are a few that had bad experience due to having a non compatible a**se

I have the Brooks pro and I am very happy with it - I never had a saddle before that I could completely forget it was under me - the Pro is the first and I can say I would not bother wih anything else in the future.

I'm sure a lot of people will post about how long it takes to break one in, though!

I've got a Specialised BG Sport saddle, it's pretty good for the last year or so.

Has anyone ever had a go on the 'bottom measurers' that apparently you can sit on in bike shops? A friend swears they are called Assometers and are real!

i'm using a brooks B17, its been on the bike since june, dont think i've quite done 100 miles on it but its really comfy, its a 'worn' one (the darker tan colour) which has slightly softer leather iirc

prefer it to my mountain bike's saddle

  • Thanks for all the replies guys. I've decided to go for it and have ordered one. Now all that remains to be seen is whether i'll like it and whether i'll get laughed out of work for my old fashioned saddle....
  • I've now got a B17 on my Cotic Roadrat commuter and was surprised at how little breaking in it needed!

you really can forget that it is there, honest. You won't regret it.

Can you get a Brooks with the anti-bollock-necrosis groove? I'd buy that!

I think my arse must be close to the base model for most saddles... Ive not yet came across any major problems with saddles since the days of bmx's with solid plastic saddles. I found the one which came with my hybrid superb, when I first got my road bike I didnt like the look of the saddle which came with it, so I put my hybrid saddle on instead, after a few days I decided the hybrid saddle looked naff so I put a £1.49 lidls slightly padded road saddle on the bike (originally brought as a replacement for the hybrid saddle so I could sell the old bike) and thats turned out to be comfortable as anything whilst looking better on a road bike and Im pretty sure by now that with padded shorts and all the original saddle would work just as well, as it seems much the same shape \ size. of course it could be pure chance that the only two saddles Ive tried in recent years were perfect fits. but I only ever had one bad saddle and that was horrible...
