Winter hack bike
I have an old Peugeot 531 frame and forks that I bought a few years age in France and have hardly used. I commuted on it for a while having bought a mates crashed bike and had lbs transfer all 105 components onto my new frame and forks. I bought a set of handbuilt mavic open pro rims on decent hubs. Then never used it. Now back into road cycling and I want to use it as a winter bike. It has gear shifters on the downtube which I could live with if it's going to be too expensive to change. My query is this, the handlebars are the original thin size with very narrow brake hoods and a quill stem. can I replace the handlebars to an oversize pair and still get a quill stem or can you only get oversized aheadstems or whatever they're called. If it's all going to be too expensive I'll just leave it but ultimately I would like oversize bars with either Shimano 105 sti brake levers or the next group down. My problem then is that the rear cassette is only a 7 speed so I think I may be snookered...........

get yourself a quill to ahead adaptor

That should allow you to fit an ahead stem that will then take oversize bars. I think..0 -
