I was wondering how simple it is to change forks and if any specific tools - bike only - are required.
I have a very good level of mechanical ability from working on cars, building up suspension, brakes, transmissions and building engines for years. So spanner twirling ain't an issue. It's just whats the routine in a Haynes manual stylee please 8)
Link would be handy if you have any

The basic order of events goes as such:
Disconnect brake from fork
Remove fork from bike by undoing stem + top cap
If you are reusing the crown race then you have to knock it off the old fork.
Install new crown race on new fork
Put new fork on bike and add on the stem.
Mark the steerer tube, 3mm below the top edge of the stem.
Cut steerer tube at mark
Install star fangled nut
Fit fork + brakes
To remove the crown race, use a wide, flat nosed screwdriver and a mallet. Gently tap the lower edge all the way around until it is off. To install it you do the opposite, ensuring its seated properly.0 -

Cutting a bit longer and adding spacers is a good idea for height tuning (and resale value)0

I did this myself for the first time this Friday, surprising how easy it is. I found the following links useful.
