i know this is a specialist 4x bike, however i can get one cheap. How good is it at being a hardcore trail machine? i would put mycranks on and get it up to 27 gears , but what kind of weight is the frame etc. Im looking for all-mountain performence but to be used fro drops and jumps etc.

    you may have a problem with a front mech as i dont think it has a cable stop. and you may have a bit of fun getting a mech to fit.

    so even if i dont change the front mech, can i still use it as an all-day hardcore trail bike?

    you could fi one of shimanos new front mech (the name escapes me) it fastens into the botom bracket cups (like some chainguides)
    i would love to see that bike when you have finished it post som pics if you build it
