i recently baught some argyle 409's. yesterday i came to swap the wheels over but the maxle wont unscrew :S well it will but it wont come out of the hub. as i unscrew the maxle, it pushes the lowers apart. i was thinking it might be stuck on one of the hub bearings. has anyone else had this problem before? What should i do?!?!?!:O

Get a small ratchet strap, wrap it around the lowers, and then undo the Maxle. It should break the chemical bond between the axle and bearings. Then grease it well before refitting. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0

Try removing the QR skewer section of it, and then hook out the wedges from inside the Maxle. If it's been overtightened, the cam will force the wedge into the non disc side, and it locks the Maxle in the dropout. So it'll spin, but it won't move outwards.
If it is corroded to the bearings, you're still going to have to find some way of stopping the lowers from spreading apart. So try the strap without the wedges in too. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0 -
i had this on my forks, i just got out the rubber malet and bashed it out.. then regreased it before putting it back in.Mark of the JakHammer

got it out now but it wasnt easy. using a ratchet strap caused the axle to chip across two of the threads and my bearings were rusted and crusted >:( bt yea i had to use a mallet
gota order me a new maxle and some new hub bearings now
o well i know for future thanksjason moore0 -
If it was so badly corroded that you had to use a mallett, it would have trashed the Maxle anyway, so you lost nothing by trying it first. It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.0
