Lowering handlebars

What is the advantage of running the front of the bike lower. Other people I know with Kona Stinkys run them as low as possible.

Is it OK to put the spacers that are underneath the stem, on top of the stem to lower the handlebars?

Cheers

You wont be able to put spacers on top of the stem. Not possible. Instead, cut the steerer a bit if you want to drop the front end hight.

Its going to be personal preference as to how many spacers (if any) you run. With a tall fork on FR bikes there is little need to raise the hight any more.

yes it is fin to move the spacers that were below the stem to above the stem. But once you are happy with the height it might be a good idea to trim the steerer down so as to not have a big bit sticking up.

  • Thanks,

So is it just a matter of personal preference, does the lower front end put more weight on it and therefore give more traction with the front wheel?

Its perfectly ok put them above the stem, it all comes down to personal preference in riding position.

Try it first though and see how u feel when ur riding the bike cos its surprising how different it can make the bike feel, lower back pain can be a major problem if ur not carefull.

Other than that it has no detrimental affect on the bike hardware itself so go ahead and try it.

Incorrect. My P7 and my Pacer have spacers above the stem (see my sig). The whole point is that you can experiment with stem height without resorting to permanent steerer tube surgery!
