Fixing a standard freewheel hub

Hi,
I have an old road bike that I'd like to turn into a fixie just to try it. It has a 120mm rear spacing, so I can fit a track hub easily, but I'd like to do it on the cheap if I can. It has an old QR wheel with a 6 speed Shimano screw on freewheel. If I remove the freewheel, will a standard Shimano track sprocket fit on? Also, with the lockring for track sprockets, does this sit on the main thread, or is there a seperate thread inside the hub for the lockring, as on a cassette?
Thanks.

Shimano 'track' cog will screw straight on. You can't use a lockring, they have an independent reverse (left hand) thread. You CAN screw on an old bottom bracket lockring (same threads) but they're not a lockring. These things are sometimes called 'suicide hubs' for a reason. Use a brake. Redish the wheel to centre the rim. Ride it to death.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I\'m only escaping to here because the office is having a conniption0 -
I'll get a track hub off ebay then. Thanks.0
