Hi everyone

i am looking at some new bikes to buy and so far i am leaning towards the 2008 Scott Genius MC-20

are there any other similarly priced bikes around that are highly recommended.

the only thing putting me off the genius is the LX and X9 combo which i currently have on my GT Idrive and have never been happy with it.

have the x9 rear mech's improved at all since 2006?

cheers

a lack of ??????? might make people take it a bit more seriously.

and a topic heading that actually refered to the Question in the post might have also helped.

Not had any problems with any of my sram mechs.

from the early X-7 to '07 X-0 with a few X-9's in between. in fact i sold an 05 X-9 that had been on a couple of bikes to a mate the other day as he trashed his X-7 in his spokes.

ah ok - i wasnt aware there was a certain criteria that had to be met before a post would be taken seriously. and what part of "what bike" isn't obvious from my post? its a question about. you guessed it, what bike?

and how about the Scott's? have you any experience of them?

other makes i have been looking at are

    Trek Fuel's
Specialized of some sort - although their new designs are a bit gash imo

If you don't like the 08 specialised why not hunt out a reduced 07 version that will probably be discounted by now

I ride an 05 Scott Genius MC30. I REALLY like the way it rides and its leightweight for its amount of travel BUT I have found it to be less than entirely robust. i am now on my third set of bearings for the swingarm and have snapped the chain stay and the seatpost. Thankfully Scott have been very good about replacing the bits as I get them.

My gf rides an 07 Stumpy FSR, no probs to date!

The more effort it looks like you've put into asking the question, the more effort it is likely you will recieve in people trying to answer it.

More information wouldn't go amiss. What style of MtB? What budget?
No, it's not absolutely neccesary, but it gives the impression you actually give a fck.
Might explain the 20 views but no opinions - the people who know about the Genius weren't particularly bothered about clicking on yet another 'what bike' topic, and all the people that did were expecting to be able to C+P in their standard answer to the "what bike for £300" question.
I'll edit the title to something more expected.

  • i wouldn't let it bother you - posts in this buying section geta fair few views but not many replies - mainly 'cos people have seen most of the questions before or don't have direct experience of product under discussion and so don't want to post something irrelevant - just like i've just done

Well I think I test rode one of those Scott MCsomethings and I didn't like it as much as the Commencal Meta 5.5.2. Thought the Commencal climbed way better - it also seems to be one tough bike so far, I bought the 5.5.1 which has x0 and has been excellent channging.

  • Rather and go for an 08 model why not look at outgoing 07 ones where you can pick up a bargain.

A mate has an mc40 and he likes it, I went for a Trek fuel EX9 (07) very well specced imho and a bargain for £1200.

well i went to evans and looked at the mc and also a cannondale rush 4 _ my god that bike is plush! BUT the cannondale didnt really suit my needs so am going for the scott

will post pics up when it arrives later this week!!!
  • Yes they seem to be a bit scarce.

I have found a new medium size on Ebay at £1899 or you can make an offer.

Looks like a dealer clearing out old stock.
