[okay I'm normally hiding out in Know-How but I thought I try this question here]

just put my winter wheels on :x ready for the awful doom of winter

I'm running 28mm gatorskins which are okay (read cheap), but slippy.

What other options are out there?

I know Conti do the GP4season in 28mm but I've generally moved away from Conti in the last few years so something else would be good.

What does everyone use?

Doesn't have to be super burly tho.

Michelin Krylion in 25 mm? They are a big 25 mm, i.e. mine are similar in volume to the 28 mm Bontrager X-lite hard cases I have on my commuting bike. They might be worth a look but not sure how grippy they are for winter riding. I'll tell you that in the spring.

Sadly not, it's in the garage at home today. I'll try and remember to check tomorrow and post at some point.

Schwalbe Marathon Plus have a good tread and will keep you running puncture-free over Winter.

  • I ran M+ 25s for last winter and will get some more for this one when I decide which bike I am going to use.

I only had one puncture in 4000 miles when this happened....

I think any loss of performance is worth it as you scarecly have to take your tyre off.

It was quite a rapid deflation!

They do have a bad rep as being difficult to get on to rims - I never had any problems with them whilst my current conti sport contacts are a nightmare. I broke two Park Tools tyre levers last week trying to get a tyre back on.

I am not going to buy those again.
