Measuring Bottom Bracket

Finally the bottom bracket has died on the ancient beast - so I am trying to find a cheap replacement (since it only needs to last until the new year). The old bracket only has 73 stamped on it - there is no reference to the spindle length (it is the old square tapered type if that makes any difference).

If I measure the spindle end to end it comes out at 130mm which is longer than I have been able to find from any of the online shops ?? Just wanted to check if that is the correct measurement to take for the spindle - and if anyone has a suggestion of where I can get one !!!

Cheers

TBH it may be easier to replace the crankset.

But pop into your LBS as they may have one. if not then they will be able to order one.

a final note is clean the axel on the drive side and have a look by the cup as the length is often stamped on it.

  • Cheers for the reply, replacing the chainset would cost more than I am looking to spend - looking at getting a new bike next year anyway.

Will pop into my LBS and see what they can source !!!
