Just learned of the new Ryedale Rumble route next year in the NY Moors....Its wicked!

Starts off with the awful experience of Boltby Bank...now I say thats one hell of a wake up...its one of the toughest 1km climbs ive ever did.

Then its off through lovely Hawnby then up through Cockayne...then up Farndale for the next trauma...Blakey Bank...another brute....then off to Westerdale and taking in the Limber Hill - another experience.....and then off to the last but not least hurdle...Rosedale Chimney.....now hitting this at around 85 scary hard cycling is going to be a test endurance and pain absorption...no other climb comes near it in terms of sustained steepness...400 meters of 33% solid....

Reckon this Sportif will be one of the very best sportifs...its getting organised with the lads who run the White Rose Classic - another very well run sportif (which im going to enter this year)

It was me who pushed the organiser to replace White Horse Bank with Boltby Bank this year.....and very unfortunately I cant do this sportif next year as Im in Gran Canaria when it gets held 27th July...hopefully 2009

This surely has to be a candidate for one of the toughest out there....theres not much climbs in the UK compare with Boltby or the Chimney...in fact Blakey Banks a match for 95% of UK climbs....

Not only that the NY Moors has some of the best surfaced and quiet roads in the UK...the scenery is staggering aswell...what more could you ask?

I've been looking at both these as possibles for next year, depends how the training goes over winter. Are they likely to get fully subscribed or will there be plenty of places?Did the Northern cyclone and Cumberland challenge this year, but this looks a step up in terms of steep climbs.
  • When are the routes/elevation profiles gonna be out?

Certainly sounds like an interesting route, i'm hoping i'll be at home at the time.

I cycled the 2007 route on this year's Ryedal Rumble. It was a cracking ride hampered only by the rain. But, I noted that it was not well attended compared to other Sportives I have done and yet the organisation, route and admin were excellent. I will certainly consider doing it next year.

I think the lower turn out was due to it being quite late on when it was announced that it would be running and it also clashed with Dragon Ride in Wales.

The route they are proposing will be brutal. Boltby is a beast. My mate rides it quite often. He is a much better climber than me but still struggles.

SSS - the thread on Cyclosport said that the website for the 2008 Ryedale Rumble should be up and running in a month or so.

I will most likely be there. Will probably do the middle distance option.

    John,

Another you might be interested in are the rides organised by Richmond Cycling Club. Provisional date for 2008 is 24 May. 50, 80 and 100 mile options. Have a look at their site below. Details are on the forum. I have done these for the last two years and really enjoyed them.
