Are they worth the money?
Are they suited to aggressive XC riding?

I think they are great value for money considering others out there for a lot more....
Personally I wouldn't use them for anything to aggressive, put it this way, I have them on my race bike but on my burly/hardcore hardtail I have Pro IIs..

Don't you find the Pro II's annoyingly noisy?
Do you think there is another aggressive XC hub that you can recommend?Specialized Rockhopper '07

Yes, they are incredibly noisy - but they do die down after a while.
What about XT hubs? Good hub and very sturdy...
What rims will you be running?0 -
Rims are most likely either DT Swiss EX5.1 or ZTR Arch. I'm still not sure about either rim or hub, even where to get the wheels from is causing me a headache!
My factory supplied 'hopper rear wheel is popping a spoke on every ride and i've been advised to invest in some hand-built wheels.
Wheelpro.co.uk?
Chain Reaction?
Merlin Wheels?
Hope? (although I don't know how to order on their website)
Advice will be greatly appreciated!Specialized Rockhopper '07

Merlin are great - I have had two sets built there and they are bloody marvelous.
Wheelpro are good too - lots of good reviews I have heard (sounds a bit Yoda )
How about XT on Mavic XM719 rims? A good sturdy but not too heavy wheel.... (personally would go Hope Pro II on XM719 - what I have on burly build)
~£120 pair
Bargain!0 -
A XTR on DT 5.1 would be a great choice. Merlin do great builds and prices.0

Thats an unbelievable price for a pair of wheels with Pro II hubs where did u buy them from??0 -
Merlin are advertising a pair of wheels for £129.95.
XT Disc Hubs
DT 5.1 Rims
XT Rotors
But they say they will only suit XT, LX or Deore 535 brakes.
As I have Juicy 3 brakes, will I need to replace the calipers/hoses/levers with a shimano set?
Other than the brake issue it seems like a very competitively priced offer.Specialized Rockhopper '07

Even if the rotors are center lock you can still use them with your existing Avid setup - exactly what I have done - XTR rotors and avid juicy carbon!

Sorry, that was for the XM719/XT set
My XM719/Hope Pro II build was ~£250

How about a pair of wheels consisting of the following;
XT 6 bolt disc hubs
DT 5.1 EX Rims
DT Black Spokes
£125 (merlin cycles)Specialized Rockhopper '07

XTR are a great hub, and probably stronger than a Hope Pro2 - they use angular contact bearings for a start. They are also lighter, and dont use the silly alloy freehub.0

Sounds great for the money! If you're not trying to save weight seems a good set up that should last!0 -

Yep, my build was £244 with XT cassette...... spot on!0
