Was I wrong to laugh?

Cycling in this morning and on pretty much the only steep section of the commute I was tailgated by a man in a little sports car. I chose not to push myself into the bramble filled hedgerow or to get off (I had the big gears rolling OK!) and made him wait until I reached the top of the climb where the road opened out - 2 or 3 minutes at most. As he came past he beeped his horn, galred at me and made some kind of insulting gesture. As it was a fine, dry morning - unlike yesterday - and I was feeling good, I chose to ignore this.

After the climb, the tight, windy singletrack road descends for a couple of miles and I know from experience that my average speed here is probably just above that of a car, especially one who doesnt know the roads and sure enough within about 30 seconds I'm up the backside of the sports car. I dont know whether my presence - sat up, one hand on the bars - irritated him and made him go faster but next minute he's in the hedge! He wasnt hurt and the car looked OK but he couldny get out and I left him waiting for the AA!! P!ssed myself for the rest of the commute.

    Nice one.

The Gods of cycling justice were with you today

Or do you have a brain zap device on your handlebars? Now that would be a worthy commuting accessory :D

I'd have laughed too...it's all about karma...

Car have an inherent need to overtake cyclists even if there is a queue 10 metres away and they have to slam the breaks on immediatley

    Edit:

In all fairness I would have asked if he was alright while trying not to laugh

Good to know that karma sometimes works in this life, not the next
  • Hope you dinged your bell at him as you passed!

I'd have stopped and checked he was okay and laughted my ar5e off.

I'd have also asked if he wanted to report incident to the police and offered to provide a statement - one they said he was aggressive towards as you were in his way and then he crashed because he was driving like a knob :D

No, you weren't wrong to laugh. I would have stopped and offered help, as well as taking a picture though.

I'd have done the same as Phil S and BentMikey. This thread would be even funnier if you'd provided photos!

  • Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread but I had an idiot this morning make a concerted effort to slow down and call me a proverbial whilst attempting to give me a death stare. Oh how I laughed when he drove straight into the oncoming traffic island.
