Going up to fort william for the weekend by train. The bike is stored verticaly by a hook that attaches to the wheel. Will this do any damage to the rim or will it mess up the forks or brakes?

Used the same service myself. it's fine as long as you're careful when putting the bike up.0

ditto what mr M said, i did edinburgh and back from kings cross and both times bike came back unscathed, once on the vertical wall hook thingy, and once on a rail with a seatbelt type thing around it.
