hi,
i am after a new bike to buy as either a frame or built minus forks .

i have found a badly scratched ex-team 24/7 dh elite.

or a 2004 iron horse sgs world cup frame that is near new.

same sort of price.

i would be using it for xc with the occasional/rare bit of downhilling

Not the 24/7, its far too heavy for xc. So the SGS, still overkill for XC though.

Which version of the SGS is it ?

You want an XC bike that looks like a DH bike? is this just for looks or are you looking for a DH bike that can be ridden uphill?

ha ha are you really serious on that? I've not got much else to say really. just go out n buy a frame you like the look of. you can pedal any bike up a hill just depends on how hard you try.

right ok i think the point here is:

    an XC *frame*
    full sus
    can handle light dh etc.

well something like one of the marin quad tara bikes are good. i might be selling my 06 alpine trail frame and shock - sounds like what you want. i did light dh and xc on it. mainly xc. did me well until the fella above made me buy an inbred

sir hc - i ride about 25 miles each way to a nearby beach where i sometimes go down the cliffs there, the route i take to get there involves backroads, gravel paths, grassy paths. so the xc is the journey the dh is the occasional cliffs, also i go into town now and again among other places,
frame with headset and if possible bottom bracket

dirtbiker - have you any pics?

  • I've a 1999 Marin Rift Zone frame/Marzzochi fork I can sell if that would fit the bill.

this is completely confusing. boxxers on an xc bike? i can't tell if this thread is one long joke or you're trying to be serious.

I'll sell you a VT frame for £200, see link below. Its done sleepless in the saddle (xc enduro) and the world cup downhill track at Les Gets.

Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect for either but for that you need 2 bikes. If you're going to look at one bike does all, it needs to be around the 6" mark.

I can also do you a package of frame fork and headset for £380 if it floats your boat.

right im going to clear this up right now, for thoses who think this is a joke if you had bothered to read the thread you would see that i am wanting a xc frame with headset that can do dh or a dh one that can climb hills.

the forks i like i chose because i have ridden another bike with them on that i liked and felt could be ridden however i want them to be. i would consider others but that would be another thread.

thanks for the people selling thier frames , i have a top budget for a frame as £200 which would include headset and preferably bottom bracket.

Thanks to everyone who has helped so far.

All well and good but does that mean you're interested in the frame or not. I could certainly do the frame, headset and the existing bottom bracket for £200 (FSA headset and BB).

Rob Warner used to run a VT with a 888 so they have been run with triple clamp forks before.
