Whilst cleaning my 07 rockhopper disc after a recent hard trail ride of 3HRS i noticed that the back wheel was moving, sort of loose even though the QR was very tight. The nut on the disc side of the rim was loose so i removed the rim to tighten it. After i tightened it the rim didnt want to move as freely as it had so i loosened it off a bit.
My question is how tight should that nut be?
thanx in advance

the nut should be as tight as needed that when you close the QR lever to hold the wheel in place you can see a good impresion on the palm of your hand.

Thanx nicklouse. The problem was when i did up the nut the rim wouldn't spin and made a sort of grinding noise untill i loosened it off a little and the noise stopped.

then your hub needs looking at as the cones are loose.

LBS time and get it fixed.
