Hi, Im new to this forum but not to cycling. I am looking to upgrade from my Dawes giro 300 as an 18th birthday present. Not wanting to spend over £400 as it may not get much use the next year if i go to uni  I have been looking at the Giro 500 (in a sale) And was wondering what other bikes could i get for the budget?? Thanks.

Go look at Ribble Cycles website. £399 will get you a competent machine. Not flash, but very usable.

    Agreed.
Also consider the Giant SCR 3.0 a great all-round road bike that can be fitted with full guards and a rack if required.

The pessimists of this world are rarely disappointed....

Love my Decathlon Sport 2, which you can pick up (rebranded as BTwin) for around £270. This would leave you a bit of spare cash for other bits and pieces (clothing, lights etc).

Don't forget that October seems to be changeover month too, with lots of 2007 stock being discounted to make way for 2008 stock.
