Hi guys and gals,

I was just wondering what you might have to say on the following subject. I have recently (replace my new 1st bike that was robbed) got a '05 cannondale f600 that I got second hand for a good price but it's just too big for me.

I know I need to sell it really cause I am just not getting the ride I wanted from it. The problem is I just don't know where to go from here.

I reckon I might get £400 for it (it is used but not bad nick) and so would be looking at a bugget of about £500 - £600 for a replacement.

My question is I want to go for a full susser but am not sure what to go for, I like the look of the entry level speciialized but maybe I should go for a decent 2nd hand one. I don't want to downgrade from my cannondale just to go full suss.

What about staying with the hardtail.

I generally ride local around Bristol but would like to expand into more taxing areas.

  • You'll get a lot more new hardtail for your money,

Buying full suss in this price range is a minefield, whether new or second hand.

'Most' new full bouncers at that price will be compromised somewhere along the line, although saying that have a look at the Decathlon range....they always get great reviews.

Second hand, you never really know what your getting do you, unless you know exactly what problems to look for. Might be worth a trawl through the sites looking at new but last years models.

    Some hardtails to look at:

    Spesh Rockhopper
    Giant XTC range
    Trek 6000
    GT in that range
I'll sneak the Carrera Fury in as well.

I'm sure there will be a few other recommendations, but those are a start point.

  • yeah i have read the review on the decathalon, in fact I suggested my little brother get one as an 1st bike. I agree with all your points that you made but I suppose that what I mean is that i want to upgrade my cannondale, it's a lovely bike with great spec (I only paid £350 off it from a mate) but just can't get away thats it's just a bit too big to be in the saddle for too long without getting backache.

The ideal solution would be for me to grow about 2inces but I have left that about 10 years too late. like I said it was bought in haste cause I just wanted to get another bike.

Oh well you live and learn, the bike I got nicked was a dawes reddle so at least that was a step up. first bike and didn't listen to people enough I got wowed by the sales mionkey.

I was thinking of playing it pretty safe and going for an 06/07 Trek / Spesh / or GT. Just want to get a nice ride at a good price.
  • Have you looked at possibly fitting a shorter stem/changing the saddle position?

If your reaching too far for the bars and that's what giving you backache, could be a nice cheap solution....and you can keep the 'dale?

    Something to look at.
