I know how to strip, service and rebuild the pedals but what i after is a tip for the cone adjustment. Unlike a wheel where you hold the cone with a spanner to stop it moving while you do up the lock nut i cant seem to find a way to hold the cone, i have read that you can you a flat screwdriver to hold the cone while doing up the lock nut but i have found you cant seem to get a screw driver down the gap once the socket is inplace to tighten the nut. ( screwdriver method was in mbuk for service on V8's, i have tried this on V8's and it didn't work, not enough room)

I have found that if nip the cone tight then undo it slightly when i come to do up the lock nut the cone nips up a bit so theres no play.

So i was wonder what methods you guys use to stop the cone tightening up too much.

Simple really i dont bother i just replace the pedals.

but if that is not an option then you have to find something that will work as the screwdriver. you have to jam that cone.

  • Why replace pedals if the pedal is fine, just needs new bearings, much cheaper than new pedals. To each their own i guess, Well it will have to be thin what ever i can find as the gap just is not big enough for a screwdriver.

Put a well greased washer between the cup and the lock nut.

If that doesn't work, use the 'two goes approach'. Nip the cone up tight then turn it back a half turn. Fit the lock nut and count the number of revolutions to hit the washer. If it tightens up, do it again but one less turn !
